50 NY living with a Lee family from Canada. She was boarding here in 1860 as
well. She was a nurse then, probably still is.
She is
67 NY keeping house and widowed. Her son James Van Buren Putnam 29 NY and
married daughter Calista Carter 33 NY are at home with her. Catalina Van Buren
was married to James Janse Putnam in Amsterdam, Montgomery County in 1860.
James was a son of John Arent Putman and Magdalena Visscher from there. James
was born July 8, 1803 and died in Tribes Hill, Montgomery County March 29,
1866. Catalina was born in Troy, New York April 9, 1804 and will die March 6,
1872. The son James was born March 27, 1842 and will die here in Albany in
September 1885. Dutch family of course.
DAVID
PUTMAN Albany W6, Albany County
He is
30 NY and an office clerk. His wife Henrietta Wilson is 25 NY and they have
Henry 3 months old. They live with her folks Abraham and Henrietta Wilson.
David Madison Putman is a son of Aaron Mathew Putman and Maria C. Haight and
was born in Schenectady and will die in Charleston, Montgomery County New York.
They are here in 1875. The son Henry will have died by then, but they will have
another one in 1875. Dutch family.
He is
number 1403, a son of David and Jennette Putnam. He is still running a butcher
shop, and is 69 NY, Nancy Sickles, his wife, 53 NY, Mary Ann 26 NY, Theodore B.
25 NY, James A. Junior 23 NY, Stephen 20 NY and David 14 NY. Also still here is
Mary Morgan 70 NY. Still can’t figure her out, see the listing back in 1860.
Anyway, James will die here shortly on December 2, 1874. The kids will be
around, but few if any ever married.
He is a
tailor, 60 NY, his son Peter 30 NY, Abby 28 NY, Clara 32 NY and Anna (Gertrude
in 1860) 17 NY. Now, they were here in 1860. Then Abby (then age 44) was his
wife. I think this listing is screwed up, and Abby is still his wife at age 58
NY probably. Been here since the 1830s, and still no clue as to who he is.
Gotta be Dutch though with the name Peter.
She is
40 IRE, Catherine 16 NY. They live with a Gaffney family from Ireland who are
probably her folks. Don’t spot these folks in the 1860.
She is
13 NY and lives with P. E. and Harriet Elmendorf family as an adopted daughter.
She was here with them in 1865
She is 36
NY, Georgiana 17 NY and Etta 9 NY. She has a bunch of boarders. Don’t find them
before or since. The daughter Georgiana was born August 2, 1852 and will marry
George William Stearns in July 1874. He was born March 4, 1845.
He is
36 NY, Mary 30 NY.
He is
27 NY, Bernette or something 25 NY. He and the above
George are probably brothers.
A very
light, hard to read page. She is 25 NY, has a daughter 3 NY, a daughter (Jennie
in 1880) 1 NY and a son 1/12 NY. She and Jennie will be here in 1875 and 1880.
He is
76 VT (should be NH), and his daughter Amanda 44 NY. They live with a Parker
family. The wife Josephine 40 NY is probably another daughter. According to
Eben’s notes, he had three daughters. One was named Sophronia who married
Abraham Martin Parker. Archelaus has been here in the County since the 1830s.
Missed out on the 1860 listing though.
Been
here all his life, Dutch folks. He is now 31 NY a tin peddler, Eliza Jane
Glover, his wife, 28 NY, John E. (Elson) 10 NY, Harriet 8 NY, Frank L. (Lowell)
2 NY. Her mother Cornelia Glover 70 NY is still living with them, probably will
till she dies. His dad John is here in town, as are his brothers. They are all
listed next.
NATHANIEL
PUTMAN Wirt, Allegany County
He is
Nathaniel Woods Putman 33 NY and works on his dad’s farm, Mary Louise Babcock,
his wife, 22 NY and they have William 3 NY. Nate will die here July 10, 1874.
Mary will then marry A. S. Allen and be here in 1880.
He is
58 NY and is alone since Hannah Cornwell his wife died in 1863. He will be here
until 1891 when he chucks it in.
Orson
Freeman is a son of Martin Gilmore Putnam and Clarissa Parsons. He was born
here, and is now 28 NY and operating a hotel, Amelia Throop, his wife, 23 NY
and Hubert (Herbert) 3 NY. They will be in Merrick County, Nebraska by the 1880
census.
David
Henry is another of Martin’s sons. He is a farmer 24 NY and his wife Jane
Penney is but 16 NY.
He is a
son of Seth Putnam and his first wife Jane Hall. He is now 54 NY and has his
son Frank 17 NY with him. His wife Esther Baker has died in the past decade. He
now lives with George and Mary Jane Fuller. Mary Jane (26 NY) is his daughter.
He is widowed here still in 1880.
Another
one of Seth’s kids, but he never married. He is now 51 NY and boarding with a
Haynes family. Horace was at home in Sanford in 1850, but the family wasn’t
indexed in 1860. His stepmother Roxy Underwood is still back there though. Now,
he lives next door to his brother Martin.
Seth’s
son is now 56 NY (should be VT), Clarissa Jane Parsons is 52 NY, Angeline
(Augusta) 16 NY, Eugene 11 (should be 14 see 1860) NY and Anna A. 9 NY.
Roxanna
Underwood was the second and last wife of Seth Putnam. She is now 78 NY and
lives with Peter and Minerva Underwood. Peter is a son of her first marriage.
He is
26 NY and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Crosby is 21 NY. He is Charles Edwin Putnam,
a son of Miles Putnam and Marilla Terry. The family was in Pennsylvania in 1850
and back in Broome County in 1860. Miles’ folks were Seth Putnam and Jane Karr
Hall from Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont. Charles served in the Union
Army as a horseman under Sheridan and Custer and then was a medical assistant
in Washington DC until the end of the war. He first married Sarah Elizabeth
Crosby here in Broome County. They will move to Nebraska where she will die in
the mid 1870s. He then married Jennie Rickerson in
1879. They will have two children before she dies in 1883 or 1884. By 1900 he
will be remarried again to Julia Hill. He will be in Red Cloud, Nebraska
through the 1920 census, and will die in Hot Springs, South Dakota August 2,
1932. He’ll have four wives all told.
Sibyl
Lilly is the widow of Nathan Putnam who was here in 1850 and, like several
others, not indexed in 1860. She is now 79 NY and living with a Whitman family.
He is a
laborer 29 NY, Jane Elise Brown 25 NY, John 6 NY and William 4 NY. He is a son
of the upcoming John Putnam and first wife Sarah Ann Learn. He was born here
and with the family in 1850 here. They will be here in 1880 too.
Been
here since the 40s, a son of Peter Putman and Mary Waters. They were here in
1850 and overlooked in 1860. He is now 59 NY, Mary Ann Learn, his wife, 47 NY.
They only had one son, Joseph who is over in Great Valley.
He is
16 NY and, along with some 20 other fellas, in the Chamberlain Institute, what ever that is.
Eliphalet Fox is still making sashes and
blinds here in Auburn. He is now 63 MA, Jane Conklin his third wife is 45 NY, and
they still have Frederick 10 NY who is at school. Also
there are Frances and Joseph Conklin. Joseph is her son by her prior marriage,
Frances is his wife.
He is a
son of Lewis and Emeline (born here October 16, 1835), and married (November
22, 1860). He is now 34 NY, Carrie Weed, his wife, 29 NY, Anna 8 NY and Lewis
Weed 2 NY. They won’t have any more kids so will miss out in the 1880 census.
He is a farmer.
He is
Alonzo Lewis Putnam, Asa and Louisa’s son and is also now married. He is a
carpenter 46 NY, Mary Ann Babcock 40 NY. He was born here October 22, 1822 and
married Mary Ann here December 19, 1860. They will not have any children. They
are in Auburn in 1880.
He was
indexed as A. A., and is Lewis Senior’s son. He is now 72 NY and still farming,
Louisa Storke is 61 NY. He will be
‘gored to death’ by a bull August 6, 1872. Louisa will be widowed here in 1880
living with her daughter Lucinda.
He was
indexed as Hiram, but is Asa’s son Harvey. He is now 36 NY, and Electa Andrews is also 36 NY.
Another
son of Lewis senior. He is 70 NY, Abigail Huntington his third wife is 52 NY.
They have Arthur 8 NY.
He is
31 NY, Sarah Clark 29 NY. Also there are her folks Luke
Clark 62 NY and Elizabeth Clark 63 NY. Jacob junior was born in Cato November
9, 1839 and married Sarah here October 31, 1867. He is a son of Jacob Putman
and Hannah Lewis from Cato, Cayuga County. His dad just died back there in
1867. Strange to see a Dutch guy stuck in here with all the others who are New
Englanders, but Sarah was from here and he married her shortly after returning
from the Civil War. They won’t have any children, and will soon move to
Hannibal, Oswego County and still be there in the 1920 census.
He is a
farmer 41 NY, Amanda Remington 35 NY, Addie 16 NY, Maria 12 NY and George
(listed Ernest in 1860) 10 NY. He is a son of Robert Putnam and was born here.
He will die here September 1, 1877. These are the only kids they will have.
George Ernest will die here in 1886.
He is
now 68 NY. Emeline McGee is now 60 NY. They have O. F. and Josephine Atwood
living with them. Josephine (28 NY) is their daughter. She was at home in 1860
and off somewhere in 1850.
Francis
is another son of Lewis and Emeline. He is now 38 NY and a farmer. His wife Marietta
Remington 32 NY and Ernest A. 8 (only 11 in 1880, probably 8/12 now) NY. He was
born here July 7, 1832 and married Marietta October 23 1861. They will be here
in 1880, and Marietta will be widowed here in 1900. By then, Brutus will have
been renamed Weedsport.
He is a
carriage maker 39 NY, Mary Jane Platt, his wife, 22 NY and young Fred is 1 NY.
He was born here in Cato in 1832, a son of Jacob Putman and Hannah Lewis. He
married Mary Jane in 1868. He will die in 1871 and Mary is widowed in Elbridge,
Onondaga County in 1875, Dutch like
everyone in town.
Yet
another one of Jacob and Hannah’s sons. Sebastian Gonsolvus
is 49 NY. His sons Frank S. 25 NY, Harry S. 23 NY and Isaac L. (Lewis) 16 NY
are at home. Sebastian was born back in Tribes Hill, Montgomery County on April
11, 1820, and he will die in Jordan, Onondaga County February 21, 1891. He
Married Philinda M. Ewell in 1842, and she has just
died here September 22, 1869.
He is
54 NY, Mary Ann 39 CAN and William A. 1 NY. He was single in Auburn in 1850. No
idea who he is.
He is
18 NY and at the Friends Academy here. He is a son of David Dense Putman from
Venice, Cayuga County. He was home there in 1860 and is also listed there now
in 1870. Just away at school.
David
Dense is now 47 NY, Theresa Hunsicker, his wife, is 42 NY, Franklin 18 NY and
Charles 8 NY. He is a son of Jacob and Hannah, and was in Cato in 1850. Dutch.
He’ll be here until he dies in 1907.
He is
Number 2889, a son of Abner Putnam and Vesta Mallory. He was born in Stockton.
He is now 48 NY, his wife Seba Barber 47 NY, George
19 NY and Edward 9 NY. They will be here through the 1900 census.
He is a
son of Ephron Putnam and Phoebe Wilmarth of Ellery.
He was here in Carroll in 1860, and is now 38 NY, Mary Jane Osgood, his wife,
30 NY (PA in 1860), Lizzie (Josephine in 1860, Lizzie again in 1880) 10 NY,
Etta 8 NY and Clyde 6 NY. He’ll be here through the 1900. He is a carpenter.
She is
33 NY and lives with an Evans family. Probably someone’s widow.
He is
37 NY and boarding. He is a butter dealer. He is the son of Olvin
Putnam of Stockton. He was married there in 1860. Don’t know what happened to
Christina now, but she will be in Fredonia with their son Victor in 1880, and
in 1900 she will be in California.
He is
number 2892, a son of Abner and Vesta. He was widowed at home with his folks in
1860, but has since married a widow Electa Ann
(Montague) Wait in 1861 and the family is together now. Edwin is 46 NY, Electa 46 NY, Willie A. (William Abner) 16 NY, Mary E. 12
NY and young Edwin G. is 4 NY. He was born in 1828 and will die here September
9, 1889. The son Edwin was born in December 1865 and will die May 2, 1873.
He is
number 2664, a son of Joshua Putnam (1195) and Lucy Lathrop of Bethel, Vermont.
Been here most of his life. He is now a retired farmer 72 VT and Rebecca
Steward is 70 VT. Kids are all off on their own now, in fact they are all out
of the state.
She is
15 NY and a servant at the Haskins farm. She is a daughter of Warren Putnam
here in town.
She is
23 NY and a servant with a Family that kinda looks like Frenloir
or something. She is another daughter of Warren and Susannah.
He is
22 NY, another of Warren’s kids, and is a laborer on the Wallace farm.
He is a
son of Ephraim Putnam (607) and Phebe Wilmarth from
Washington County, but has been here for most of his life. He is now 47 NY,
Susannah Carpenter 47 NY. At least one kid, Emerrette
12 NY, has stuck it out here at home. He is a manufacturer, but probably not
too successful if all his kids are hired out to other families.
Another
of Warren’s sons. He is 26 NY a farmer, Mary Gifford, his wife, 24 NY and
Delilah 2 NY. They live with Benjamin and Sonesta Brooks.
He is
27 NY and is a clerk in the hotel he lives in. He is Oscar Davis Putnam, a son
of Aaron Davis Putnam of Charlotte. He was boarding in Dunkirk in 1860.
Number
2844, a son of Andrew Putnam of Stockton. He is 63 NY, Alvira Schofield 65 NY.
They live with their daughter Maria Strum (26 NY) and her family. He lists
himself now as a retired farmer. Guess gave up the clergy as well.
He is number
2842, one of Andrew’s sons. He is now 68 NY, Zeruah
Lawrence his wife 64 VT. They are here again in 1880.
He is
41 NY, Rose 31 NY and Mary 11 NY. Rose Ann Wesley is a new wife. He was married
to Christina in 1860. Rose will hang in there and they will be here in 1880 and
again in 1900. He is a son of Hiram Putnam and Zeruah
Lawrence.
Hiram’s
son. In 1860 he was listed Alvin, but is Olvin.
Anyway, he is now 43 NY, and has a new wife Salina Chapman 34 CT. His first
wife Jane Button died here January 25, 1862. Olvin
will die here December 9, 1893, but Salina will be here in the 1900 and hang in
till 1918.
Been
around here since he married and left Vermont in the late 1830s. He is now 62
VT, his wife Hannah Field is 59 VT, Helen P. 21 and Mary L.20 NY. Their son,
William Riley, is now married and living in Smith Center, Kansas.
Somehow
the town wasn’t indexed, but there are a bunch of folks here. See the 1860 and
1880 and guess.
JOHN
B. (BEAMAN) PUTNAM Pomfret, Chautauqua
County
He is a
son of Nathan Bancroft Putnam. He is 36 MA, a farmer, Julia (Mrs. Julia B.
Meigs) is 35 NY. They will soon move to Chicago and be there in the 1880, then
move to New York City. He will die there in the late 1890s, and Julia will be
widowed there in 1900. There weren’t any children.
He is a
seed peddler 31 NY, Hattie Brown 26 NY and Alice 2 NY. He is a son of Aaron
Davis Putnam (3356) and was here in 1860, and in Charlotte before that. Jesse
was born in Charlotte January 25, 1838. He served in the Civil War, returned
here and married Harriet L. Brown August 30, 1866. They will be here through
1900, and Hattie will be widowed here in 1920.
He is
33 NY, Mary McDaniel 25 VT. He is a son of Aaron L. and Almira Putnam. He was
born here May 2, 1836 and married Mary Frances McDonald of Rutland, Vermont
here on July 5, 1865. They will be here through the 1890s, and Mary will be
here through the 1920 census.
Elmira
Beaman is the widow of Nathan Bancroft Putnam who died here April 9, 1864. She
is now 65 MA, Nathan A. 40 MA, a retired grocer, Mira A. 39 MA, Herbert J. 27
NY a grocer, and Elvira 25 NY. Elmira was born May 8, 1805 and will die here
April 2, 1880. Herbert will marry Laura Hale in 1876. Nathan and Mira will
never marry, and will be here through the 1900.
AARON
L. PUTNAM Pomfret, Chautauqua County
Nathan
(Sr.)’s son is now a farmer 66 MA, Dolly O. (Almira E. Osgood) 62 MA, Hannah
Jane 38 MA, Albert L. (Lawrence) 27 NY, Cornelia Maynard (Albert’s wife) 26 NY
(actually WI), and Arthur C. 21 NY. Albert runs a dry goods store and his
brother Arthur works for him. Albert married Cornelia A. Maynard in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin on November 30, 1869. Albert was born February 12, 1843 and will die
here January 26, 1890. Cornelia was born June 6, 1845 and will be here till she
dies August 31, 1921. Aaron was born April 25, 1804 and will die here March 29,
1880. Dolly was born March 25, 1808 and will die shortly on August 17, 1870.
He is a
carpenter and joiner, 57 VT, Hannah Ellis 43 MA, Carrie 15 NY, Dora 11 NY,
Gertrude 9 NY and Clyde 6/12 NY. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (#1882) and Mary
Burton. Been here since the 1830s and will be till he dies sometime before 1900
when Hannah is shown here as a widow. They were in Westfield in 1860 and will
be in Chautauqua in 1880.
He is
now 61 NY, Almira Emery his wife 50 NY, Eleanor A. 20 NY and the twins Marvin
and Murray are now 13 NY. He is number 2845, a son of Andrew and Azuba.
Newel’s
son is now 49 NY, Maria Louise Flagg his wife 48 VT, Sumner (Charles Sumner) 11
NY and Mary E. 9 NY. He will die here October 28, 1871. Maria will marry Forbes
Johnson and be here in Ellery in 1880 along with young Mary.
He is a son of Gilbert Putnam and Thankful Rogers, and was
born here July 14, 1836. He is now a farmer 34 NY, Annette Schofield 29 NY and
their son Fayette 2 NY. Delos married Annette here July 8, 1862. She is from
Ellery. He will soon become Justice of the Peace here in town, and become a
Judge by the 1890s.
She is
Frances Mitchell, wife of Elisha Putnam (2887) a son of Abner and Vesta Putnam.
She is 53 NY, her son Albert E. 12 NY is at home. Elisha has to be around somewhere as he isn’t
supposed to die until January 15, 1884. He will be widowed here in 1880. Fanny
was born May 4, 1817 and will die here May 14, 1878. The son Albert or Elbert
was born March 28, 1858 and will die soon on May 29, 1872.
He is
now 39 NY, Louisa Fuller 36 NY, Frank F. (Fuller) 14 NY, Almira L. 12 NY, Alice
9 NY. Also here is his mother Vesta Mallory Putnam 75 VT. Corydon is a son of Abner and Vesta. Louisa will die July 7, 1870 at
age 36, and he will marry Celesia S. Matthewson
October 8, 1871. They will be here in 1880. He is number 2894. The son Frank
Fuller was born May 15, 1856 and will die here July 19, 1880.
He is
another of Abner’s sons. He is number 2890. He is now 46 NY MA MA, Amelia Woods, wife number 3, is 36 NY VT VT, Ernest W. 13 NY, Clayton 6 NY, Clesson,
a son 6 NY, and Herbert 3 NY. His first wife Martha Walker died in 1859. He
married Marilla R. Smith (September 19, 1860). She died in 1866, and he married
Amelia M. Woods on April 20, 1869. They will be here in 1880. Amelia will be
widowed here in the 1900.
Another
of Gilbert’s sons, though not listed in Eben’s numbering system. He would be
kinda 2894.5. He is now 39 NY, Mary Ann Hoag 38 NY, Frank 14 NY, Lillie 12 NY,
Gertrude 7 NY, Fred 5 NY and Fritz 3 NY.
He is
51 VT, and widowed. His children are Lillian 22 NY, Burton 20 NY, Ida 16 NY,
Bradford 14 NY and Mary 10 NY. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (#1882) and Mary
Burton, and has been here most of his life. He was married in 1860 to Alpha Ann
Van Vleet who has died here in 1863. In 1873, he will
marry Julia Keyes. They will be here in 1880 and 1900.
He is now
81 NH and widowed since his wife Lucy Morse died in 1865. He is still living
with George and Eleanor West as he has since the 1840s. George Putnam West is
an adopted son. Thomas will be here till he dies February 10, 1879 at age 90.
He is a son of Thomas Putnam (452D) of Charlestown, New Hampshire.
He is a
bedspring manufacturer, and is 40 MA, Bertha 25 MA, Emma J. 14 MA and John 3
MA. He is William Malcomb Putnam, and is living with his second wife Bertha
Foster. He is a son of John Putnam and Adeline Joselyn of Boston. He was
married to Annie Joselyn in 1855. He then married Bertha Foster March 20, 1867.
They were in Boston in 1860, and by 1880 will be in Sandwich, Mass. out here on
Cape Cod where I live.
She is
a dressmaker 35 VT, her daughter Ella is 16 VT.
JOSEPH
PUTNAM Horseheads, Chemung County
He is listed as John but is a
son of Silas Putnam and Martha Jordan and was married here in 1860. He is now a
blacksmith 41 VT, his wife Mary (possibly Wheeler) is 40 NY and they have
Clara (Cleona) 12 NY and Willard 9 NY.
His folks went to Michigan in the 1830s and this family will also be in Lenawee
County Michigan by 1880.
He is
57 NY, a farmer, Jane 63 NY. Don’t find them in 1850 or 1860. Probably Dutch.
He is
40 NY and a farm laborer.
He is
17 NY and boarding with the family of John E. and Harriet Tuttle. He is a son
of Daniel Webster Putnam and Mary Jane Hudson. He and the family were here (New
Berlin) in 1860. His dad was killed in the Civil War in 1863. No idea where the
rest of the family is now though. He will be married in Madison County in 1880,
and in Oneida County with a second wife in 1900. Then they will be in Madison
County in 1910 and 1920.
She is
27 NY, Flora 9 VT, Walter 6 VT and Henrietta 1 NY. She is Cornelia Meyers. She
has just married Cornelius Lewis Putnam, Alva’s son. These kids are with his
first wife Lucy Haskins (although Henrietta may be hers). Don’t know where
Corny is, probably back in Vermont wrapping up things. They will all be
together here in 1880 with some more kids. Then in the 1880s, they will go to
Wardsboro, Vermont and remain there all their lives. They will be there in the
1900 census.
He is
now 63 NY, a carpenter and joiner, Maria Call his wife 54 NH, William 21 NY and
Mary 13 NY. Been here a while now, but got missed in the 1860. Maria will die
here February 25, 1879. He will then marry Harriet D. Brisbin
here in Mooers on October 15, 1881. He will be here
until he dies January 19, 1896.
He is
32 NY, Esther Hanson 22 NY and they have Curtis 1/12
NY. He is a son of Archelaus Putnam and Deborah Kimball. He was born here. His
folks are from Wilton, New Hampshire. They will be here in 1880, and he will be
widowed here by 1900. Spent all his life right here.
Another
of Archelaus’ sons. He is now 52 NY a laborer, his wife Jane Ormsby is 55 NY.
Still at home are Melvin 20 NY, Archelaus 18 NY, Israel 12 NY. His son Arthur
lives next door. The son Melvin will be in Missaukee County, Michigan by 1880,
and then back here by 1900.
Aaron’s
son is now 24 NY a laborer and his wife Emma Jane Andrews is 25 NY. They are
here through 1910 and Emma till 1920 and later.
He is a
son of Archelaus Putnam and Deb Kimball. He was single here in 1860, and is now
married. He is a retail grocer 39 NY, Sarah Ayers his wife 35 NY. He is in
Nashua, New Hampshire in 1880, and Sarah is here in 1880. Don’t find either in
1900. Sarah is here in 1910 but no Ephraim.
He is
28 NY, Augusta 28 NY, George junior 8 and Arthur 7. He is a son of Isaac Putnam
and Lucinda Church from Berkshire County, Mass. The family was all here in
1860, he is all that’s left here now, and he’s outa
here shortly himself, but may still be here. He is in Bridgeport, Connecticut
in 1900.
He is
now listing himself as a retired farmer. He is 62 NY, Jennette Cleveland, his
wife, 55 NY and John C. (Cleveland) 14 NY is still at home. The other son,
Samuel Cleveland, has just gotten married and is currently in Wisconsin. He’ll
be back here in 1880 and then off to Oregon.
He is a
shingle maker 48 NY. His wife Rachel is 41 NY and they have Amelia 17 NY,
Jerome 14 NY, Eugene 12 NY, Fanny L. 9 NY and Emma S. 4 NY. They were here in

1880 and John will die here February 2, 1897. In 1900, Laura will be widowed,
and living with her then married daughter Kate.

railroad foreman. He is 38 CAN, Rebecca 28 NY and Frances 4 NY. They will be in
Binghamton, Broome County in 1880.

Postmaster in Buffalo and will soon be the U. S. Consul at Le Havre and then
Minister to Belgium in the 1880s. That’s why young Harvey was born in France.
Over there briefly. They will be here in 1880 then overseas, and then back here
about 1890. They will be in the 1900 census here. James was first married to
Harriet Foster Palmer back in 1842. She died and he married Kate in 1855 here
in Buffalo.

a tanner and is 27 NY. This is just a duplicate listing. He is shown also with
his folks James Osborne and Kate Putnam. George will be married and in Raritan,
New Jersey by the 1880, and in New York City by 1900.

with a Proctor family then.

Porter has moved over from Willsboro and has a new wife. He is now 63 VT, Betsy
Chase 48 VT, a son still only listed as L. D. 16 NY and Alice 13 NY. Their son
Albert (here in 1860) is now in De Kalb County Missouri and the son L. D. is
with him there by 1880. We finally get L. D.’s name by 1910 when it is Louis D.
(probably D. for Daniel). Daniel married Betsy M. Chase here August 8, 1865.
She was a daughter of Samuel Clark and Elizabeth McCoy. She had been married to
Reuben Chase in Madison County in 1860.
Ruhama Marshall is the widow of Hiram
Putnam from here in Essex. She is now 68 NY and has Mary Moorehouse
40 NY with her. She had a Mary Ann Morton about the right age with her in 1860
as well.

daughter) 27 NY, Charles P. 23 NY and a granddaughter daughter Jessie (Vanormen) 5 NY.

name is actually Joseph Charles Putnam, but he went under the name John. He is
a laborer, 24 VT, Josephine Lillie Segar, his wife 16 NY, Emma 3/12 NY. Also
here are Rosalie Putnam (Rosella Charles) 54 VT his mother, and Henry Putnam 22
VT a brother. They are kids of Stephen Putnam and Rosella Charles from Franklin
and then Orange County, Vermont. Their dad died there in 1864. They will all
head off to Port Henry, Essex County shortly. They are there in 1880 and ‘John’
has gone back to his original middle name Charles. He will die there in 1885 as
shown in the Find A Grave Index. Josephine will be
widowed and living with her family there in 1900. That’s how I know her last
name.

a jeweler and boarding. He is 23 NY. He is Charles Warren Putnam a son of James
Madison Putnam and Rhoda Smith listed above in Moriah. He was in Moriah with
them in 1860. And is listed here with them right now. He will be married to
Amanda and they are back in Moriah Corners, Essex County in 1880.

County New Hampshire. He was born there October 12, 1812. They were in St.
Lawrence County in 1850 and 1860 and are still here in Franklin County in 1880.

County, Nebraska. They didn’t stay long and everyone will be in Johnstown,

born in Batavia. Franklin was a son of Peter Putnam number 1080. They were in
Erie County in 1850, in Wyoming County in 1860. He is still a minister, and
that is why he travels around. He will die here February 1, 1878 and be buried
in West Bethany. Clarinda will be back in Wyoming County and widowed by 1880.
She will die June 30, 1895 and be buried here in West Bethany.

68 NY and lives with Ezra and Lydia Solomon. He is number 2447, a son of Caleb
Putnam (1085) and was born in Rome, NY. He was here in Genesee County in 1830,
in Niagara County in 1850 and living alone with the Solomons in 1860 too. I
have no idea who the Solomon’s are; Lydia is not a sister, might be a daughter.
In 1880, he will be in Flint, Michigan and states he is widowed.

died March 26, 1868. Ira will die here January 22, 1876. His wife will marry
Brayton Hall, or at least be living with him in 1880.

their daughter Minerva who married James Daley in 1858. Marietta will die here

Nancy Townsend who has just married Squire Putnam who is a son of John Adams

his folks, but they will all be together in 1880. They were just married here

clerk in a store, Harriet Antoinette Whipple his wife is 28 NY, Burdella 4 NY and Ida 1 NY are the kids. He was born
October 3, 1839 in Ellisburgh and will die in Tyrone,
Kent County Michigan February 12, 1908. He married Harriet here September 10,
1863.

who has also moved over here from Adams.

(Cora in 1860) 13 NY, Louise 4 NY. Their son DeForest
21 NY is still at home. Also here is his father Philip Putman 89 NY. Philip
will die here in 1872 at age 92. Dutch family.

like the same kid in 1860 who was living with Amelia Enders. Spelling and

March 29, 1823 in Montgomery County and will die February 17, 1898 in Three
Mile Bay, Jefferson County. Dutch.

retired to an office job. He’ll be widowed here in 1880.

second wife) 38 MA, Endicott 3 NY and Alfred junior 4/12 NY. He is Alfred
Porter Putnam, son of Elias Putnam (1775) and Eunice Ross of Danvers. They were
in Roxbury, Mass. in 1860, and they will be back in Salem, Mass. in 1900.

72 MA, Harriet 35 NY and Emily 37 NH. The daughters are both teachers. She is
listed as Medesy, but is Betsy Pope, widow of Sam
Putnam. Been here some 40 years now, and will be in 1880 at age 83.
He is 47 NH, Mary Esther Kellogg 44 NY. He is a secretary at a saw manufacturing Company. He is the son of Samuel Putnam and Betsy Pope. He was here at home with them in 1850. He and Mary were here in 1860 and will be in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1880. Sam was born in Portsmouth, Rockingham County New Hampshire March 16, 1823 and will March 23 1896 and be buried in Brooklyn. He married Mary February 22,1854 in Brooklyn. According to her grave stone, she was born in New York City February 22, 1826 and died on her birthday February 22, 1900.

Margaret Putman. She will be here in 1880 and 1900 as well.

Sarah F. 13 CAN, Virginia B. (Bell) 9 VA, and Arthur B. 7 NY. He will be here
in 1900 as well. He is a son of Peter Putman Jr. and Margaret Saunders. They
were here in the 1840s and 50s. Dutch folks. According to a DAR application of
the daughter Virginia Bell, she states he lived in St. Lawrence County New
York, Easton Corners, Canada, Clarksville Virginia (where she was born and
named), and a few other spots in NY State. Interesting. Ellis was with his
brother George William in Clarksville, Virginia in 1860 and at that time Helen
was married to George. George died and Ellis married Helen. All the kids
through Virginia Bell are George’s. Not sure who Arthur belongs to, but would
guess based on ages that he too is George’s. George worked for the railroad and
traveled all over as shown by the kids’ birthplaces. Ellis and Helen will be
here through 1900.

from Cazenovia. He was in Fenner in 1860, but is now
back here. Dutch family.

another son of Benjamin Putman and Sophia Moyer. He lives next door to his
brother Oscar. Boardman is now 26 NY, Carrie 27 NY and
they have Charles 1 NY. Also here are Osgood Putman 18 NY who is a son of his
brother Oscar, and a Helen Putman 10 NY who I have no clue about.
She is
63 NY and lives with William Stoddard 59 NY. She was alone or widowed here in
1860. Don’t know who her husband was though.
She was
here in 1850 and 1860 and was married to Harvey Putnam. She is now 52 NY, and
her daughters Catherine 21 NY and Mary 16 NY. These two were with their dad in
1860. She will be here in 1880 living with her then married daughter Mary. Harvey
was a son of Jacob Putman from Litchfield, Herkimer County where he was born.
They were here in 1860, but Lavinia was living separately. They were back
together in 1865. Later in 1865 Harvey, who was a ship’s captain, was murdered
by thieves attacking his ship.

son is still here practicing medicine. He is now 69 NY, Elizabeth Sarah Reed
his wife is 53 NY, Carrie 18 NY, Minnie (Mary) 16 NY. Also here is Hattie Reed

another of Elijah’s sons. Sidney is now 65 NY and farming, Ruth Brownell his
wife is 57 NY, Leverett 33 NY. Then there is a girl whose name looks like Cantie 10 NY and an Elizabeth 36 NY. They will be here in

son-in-law A.N. Whiting. In 1875 she is listed: Elmyra Putnam 73 Born
Dutchess County. She is living with daughter Eugenia and her son-in-law A.N.

or someplace and Ellen and Sidney were back in Providence. In his book, Eben Putnam says “Who was Avery D. Putnam, assaulted 26
April 1871, by William Foster in New York. Putnam died on the 29th.
Foster was hung 21 March 1873.” Interesting. In 1880, Ellen and Sidney are back
in Providence with her folks Scott and Ada Smith. Ellen will die there May 25,
1885 at age 53. Sidney will die there August 3, 1883 at age 25. Avery was a son
of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett from
Holden, Worcester County.

December 30, 1872. Sarah was born in 1827 and will die here July 28, 1892.

married Polly in Athol, Ontario in 1856, went to Bureau County, Illinois with
two brothers, then went to Athol, Ontario and were listed there in the 1861
Canadian Census, and then came full circle back here in about 1868. They will
be here the rest of their lives now.

and been around here all his life. The Edward shown here is Levi’s son. Levi
was married here in 1860, but is now widowed. Levi and Edward will be here in
1880.

farm laborer 69 NY, Nancy Smith, his wife, 60 NY. John is a son of Frederick
Putman, Jr. and Margaret Barnhardt originally from Montgomery County. Dutch
family. All the kids that were here in 1860 are long gone now. His wife Nancy
will die here October 20, 1870. John will be here until he dies in 1888.

24 NY. Hard to read. He is on the Redfield family farm. He is a son of the
above John and Nancy and was listed as Clinton in 1860. He will marry Emily
Brown soon, and be in Orleans County by 1880.

Mary is Mary Gray, widow of Benajah Putnam. They were in Seneca in 1860, and he
died in 1864. The two guys are her sons. They will be in Stanley Corners,

1910 census, and he will die in Albion, Orleans County January 12, 1917. Dutch
Family.

John 27 NY. Then we get what are listed as his parents Catherine 77 NY and
James 76 NY, then there is Lewis 9 NY and Elizabeth 12 NY. Lewis, and the above
James are sons of Johannes Lewis Putman and Margaret Becker from Montgomery
County. No clue as to Catherine, James and the others. They well may be Vosburgs, or some kinda kinfolk. Anyway, Lewis was born
April 11, 1811 and will die April 17, 1880 and is buried in East Pembroke,
Genesee County.

NY. Albert is not a son, but is obviously kinfolk. John J. is a son of Johannes
(John) Putman and Magdalena Vrooman. He was born in
Schenectady on March 27, 1816. They were in Amsterdam, Montgomery County in
1850, and in Niagara County in 1860.

and is about 32 if the 1860 is correct. They are in Olmstead County Minnesota
in 1875 and 1880.

family. He was married in Onondaga County in 1850, and alone in 1860 there in
1860.

Clarinda Crosby, now the widow of Samuel Putnam. She is 67 NY and lives alone.
They were here in 1860 and earlier, and will be here in 1880.
Amanda
is 40 NY, Eugene 16 NY. Now, in 1860 she was in Cayuga County with a daughter
Alta 6, and will be here with Alta and her husband in 1880. I think this is a
‘typo’ and it is really Alta here with her now. They are then in Syracuse in
1900 and in Cortland County by 1910. No ideas as to her husband.

would be the son of Prosper Putnam from Rome, Oneida County as shown in 1860.

Queensbury, Warren County by 1880 and Charles is married by then.

NY here who is her mother. He is a son of Aaron Jefferson and Jane Scott from
Warren County, who are listed above in Greenfield. James will be back in
Queensbury, Warren County in 1880 and back here in 1900 through 1920.

Putnam (Lewis’ son) who died here in 1860. She is now 42 NY and married to
Robert Patterson 57 IRE. She has her two Putnam sons here, John 18 NY and James
13 NY. She lives in her old house right next door to Lewis and Betsy.
Lorenzo
Bradley Putnam is now 42 NY, Mary Frances Goslin 35
NY and her mom Eve Goslin 60 NY. He is a son of Lewis
Putnam (1382) and his second wife Elizabeth Alcott. Lorin
first had married Amelia Needham who has died. He then married Mrs. Mary
Frances Jenkins (born Goslin). They will be here
forever.
Gideon’s
son is now 79 NY, Betsy Stillwell Allcott, his wife,
is 69 NY. Also here is Estelle 18 NY. She is a daughter of Lorin
Putnam and his first wife. Guess she decided to stay with the grandparents
after Lorin remarried.

Mary Watrous, and is 40 NY, Ellen 12 NY, Gemima
(Genevieve) 10 NY and Sarah 8 NY. She is the widow of George Rockwell Putnam
from here. They will all be here in 1880 living with her sister.
She is now widowed 49 IRE, and
has John 24 NY, Henry 20 NY and Victor 15 NY. Mary Mooney was married to
William Putnam here in 1860. I have a sheet that says William’s folks were
Caleb Putman and Polly Gilchrrist from Tribes Hill,
Montgomery County. William was born there in 1818 and will die in Saratoga
Springs. The son John will marry Ellen Schryer and
they will be in Detroit, Michigan in the 1880 census. Dutch folks.

Gideon is another of Lewis’ sons. He is a deputy sheriff 56 NY, Caroline
McNally 53 NY and Laura 18 NY.
She is Margaret Fenlon, widow of
Washington Putnam (1386), and was widowed here in 1850 and 1860 as well. She is
now 66 NY, Alice her daughter is 27 NY. Also here is another daughter Flora 29
NY and her husband George McAmber 32 NY. Margaret
will die here August 17, 1872.

Eveline Angelica Mabie May 24, 1849. He is now 48 NY,

He was born in Schenectady on November 10, 1805 and will die here in Rotterdam
on September 8, 1874. He married Nancy in Amsterdam, NY on October 7, 1829.

a son of Mattheus Putman and Nancy Ann Vedder of Charlestown, Montgomery. He married Maria here in
1838 and has been here ever since. She will be widowed here in 1880.

46 NY and lives with James and Jane Cole. She will be here in 1880, also
boarding. She is Maria Quilhot who is the widow of
Francis Putman. Francis was a son of Peter Victor Putman and Mary Lepper from
Amsterdam, Montgomery County. They were there in 1860. Maria will die here at
the Home for the Aged in May of 1893.

and there is an Emma Strong 10 NY here too. He is a son of John Putman and
Sarah Mumford. The family was from New Jersey then back to NY, and then went
into Ontario. Isaac was ‘naturalized’ there in 1848. Dutch family. They were in
Lockport, Niagara County in 1860, and in Ontario across the lake before that.
Their eldest son James was born there. Isaac will be in Alleghany County in
1880.

(2150). They were here in St. Lawrence County in 1860, and in Watertown just

Mass. In 1880, she will be living with her grandson Watson Acres. Moses died
here a year ago on March 19, 1869. She will die here November 6, 1882.

every other time it was New York. In 1880, he lists that he and both parents
were from Massachusetts. Now, based on the age and Mass birthplace, he should
be the son of Abner Putnam and Nancy Stearns, and was born in Shrewsbury, Mass
March 11, 1802. They’ll be here in 1880.

married Gratia Adelia Evans October 2, 1838 in Bainbridge, Chenango County. She
was born in Bainbridge in 1818 and died in Bainbridge October 12, 1840. Archibald and Elizabeth will be
in Tioga County in 1850 and onwards. Still working on who his folks, and
both are from Vermont. He
was born there in 1810 and will die in Owego, Tioga County in 1894 and buried
in the Evergreen Cemetery there.

son of the above Archie, and was at home here in 1850 and 1860. He is a painter

She is 73 NY and is living with her son-in-law Joseph Borden 43 NY and married daughter Susan Borden 31 NY. Emma is Amy Clark, the widow of Calvin Putnam of Truxton, Cortland County, New York. Amy and Susan were living together in Cortland County in 1860, and 1865 and still are but now Susan is married. This is the last time that we see Amy. She will die on July 10, 1875 and does not appear in the 1875 census. Joseph and Susan (Putnam) Borden will be back in Cortland County and will remain there forever. New England Family.

30 NY, a superintendent at Cornell University. His wife Mary Nichols Woodward
is 25 NY. He is a son of Hamilton Putnam and Jeanette Cleveland, and was born
in Hartford, Cortland County, NY December 23, 1833. He married Mary in Orange
County, NY January 30, 1867. He will be here as Business Manager till about
1872, then will move to Elizabeth, New Jersey where he will be a health officer
and then president of the Board of Education. He will remain there until his
death in 1915.

parents were Aaron Johannes Putnam and Joanna Neff from Fulton County. His line
is Adam > Aaron > John A. > Arent V. > Victor J. > Jan Putman.
Sybil
Daily is the widow of Enos Putnam (number 2670, a son of Joshua Putnam (1195)
and Lucy Lathrop of Bethel, Vermont). They were here in 1850, in St. Lawrence
County in 1860 and now back here. He died here March 19, 1865. She is 65 VT,
her daughter Elizabeth J. 15 NY. Also here are her son Francis Osmond 33 VT (a
clergyman like his father), his wife Julia Weber Richardson 31 NY, Osmond D.
(David) 8 NY, and Elliot R. (Richardson) 3 NY. He married Julia while they were
living in St. Lawrence County. They and his mom will be here in 1880.

son of Enos and Sybil, and he lives right next door. He is a farmer 35 VT,
Margaret Little, his wife, is 35 IRE, George G. 8 NY, Martha 2 NY. They also
have a servant Mary Jones 22 ENG.

stage proprietor 47 NH, Lois Swain, his wife, is 53 VT and Anna 9 NY. He is
number 2561, a son of Elisha Putnam (1150) and Nancy Melville of Charlestown,
New Hampshire.

boatman, 50 NY, Clarissa Sage 45 NY, Wilkins 18 NY, Cyrus 12 NY, Frances 8 NY
and Willie 2 NY. They were in Corinth, Saratoga County in 1860, and here in
1850. He is a son of Aaron Putnam and the next listed Mary Case.
She is
78 NY and lists herself as an ‘old lady.’ She lives with a Llewellyn family.
She is Mary Case, Aaron’s widow, and was actually born in Vermont. Aaron
was born October 24, 1779 in Temple, New Hampshire and died August 9, 1853 in
Glen Falls here in Warren County. Mary is widowed here in 1855, 1860 and 1870.
Mary will die in Glenn Falls September 11, 1877.
He is a

NY, George 9 NY, Libbie 7 NY, Agnes 5 NY, Fred 3 NY. Also here is Sarah Stanton
77 NH. He is a son of Cornelius and Ann Putnam from Luzerne here in Warren
County. In 1860, his wife was Betsy Hutchings. Louisa is his second wife. They
will be here with more kids in 1880.
Another
of Cornelius’ sons. He is now 39 NY, his wife Eliza Ann Wright, 31 NY, Adelia 9
NY, George 7 NY, Mary M. 4 NY and Sarah E. 2 NY. They were here in 1860 and
will be in 1880 and 1900.
She is
73 NY and lives with Joseph and Hattie Grey. She is Elizabeth Dorr, widow of
John Pope Putnam who died here in 1867.
She was
here in 1860, and still lives with her folks. She is now 40 NY, but suddenly
has two sons that weren’t shown in 1860. They are Abijah 18 NY and Aaron 13 NY.
Her folks are Abijah and Clara McFarland. No idea who the husband was.
She
is 31 NY widowed, and lives on the Allerton farm. Eveline will be widowed here
in Arcadia, Wayne County, New York with her folks Mead and Lavinia Allerton in
1865, 1870, 1875 and 1880. Then with just with Lavinia in 1900, 1905 and 1910
and by herself there in 1920 and she will die here May 7, 1928. Before she got
married, she was with her folks in Manchester, Ontario County New York in 1840,
1850 and 1855. She was married to William S. Putnam, and in 1860 and
they were with his folks in North East Township, Erie County Pennsylvania. He
died and she moved back up here.
Eveline was born in Manchester April 5, 1838. She was listed as an adopted
daughter in 1955 when at home with them, and again in 1865 and 1870 when she
went back home after William died. They are her folks, they adopted her it
seems. She’ll be here with her mother Lavinia Allerton through 1910 when she is
72 and her mom is 99.

22 ENG and a laborer on the Grenell farm.
She is
56 NY and lives with a Clark Family. Spencer Clark is her brother. She and he
will still be right here through 1900. She first pops up with her brother in
1855 and was listed as a widow. I have no clue as to her husband.

20 ENG and boarding. Probably a brother of the above Fred Putnam in Galena.
Frederick’s
son is still here with his new wife. He is a farmer 45 NY, Dinah Hyman (listed
here as Zena 34 Prussia. Also here is her brother Henry Hyman 17 Prussia.
Living right next door is Anthony Seiman 60 Prussia.
Also with Anthony are Catherine Hyman 36, Fred Hyman 28, Louisa Hyman 23 and
Joseph 25, all born in Prussia. There is also an Anna Hyman 1 NY. This would be
Dinah’s family and maybe a stepfather or uncle.
Sophia
Fairman, the widow of George Putnam is now 81 MA and ‘Retired.’ She lives with
her daughter Chloe Smith and her family, and was living here in 1860.
He is
56 NY, Sarah Landon 56 NY, Eugene 23 NY and his wife Sophronia 19 NY. Eugene
and Sophronia will be here through at least 1900. Jared is a son of George
Putnam and Sophia Fairman from here in Ontario. Sally will be widowed here in
1880.
He is a
farmer 50 NY, Maria Ellis his wife 45 NY, Eugene 8 NY, May 6 NY and Gertie 3
NY. Then there are Margaret Putnam 21 NY and Phebe Ellis, Mariah’s mom, 78 NY.
Margaret is their daughter, then it looks as if he and Maria decided to start a
second set of kids. He was in Monroe County in 1850 and 1860, but was born
right here. He was born January 3, 1820 in Palmyra, Wayne County, New York. He
is a son of Stephen Putnam and Dorcas Smith. Stephen was born in Tolland,
Conn., Dorcas was from Massachusetts. Mariah will be widowed here in 1900.
He has
been here all his life, Cornelius’ son, and is now 44 NY, Eliza Alles is 38 England (Isle of Guernsey), Daniel (Douia Cornelius) 18 NY, Henry (Hervey) 13 NY and Wells 10
NY. They will be here in 1880 and 1900.
She is
37 NY and lives with a Holt family.
He is
35 NY, Ellen Ballard 27 NY, Charles 10 NY, and Mary 8 NY. He is a son of Jared Fairman Putnam and Sally Landon and was born
in Ontario, Wayne County and there with his folks in 1850. His folks are there
now and listed above. New England family Massachusetts to Connecticut to out
here.

publisher, 34 ME, Alice 28 IL and they have Charlotte 1 NY. He is Joseph Robie Putnam, and was born in Houlton, Maine, a son of
Sterne Putnam (#1804) and Hannah Townsend. He married Alice Harvey Whitney May
20, 1868, and they will be in Chicago, Illinois shortly and be in the 1900
census. They will get there about 1872 but aren’t indexed in 1880 as they
should be.

30 NY and a clerk in the House of Correction.

29 NY, Margaret 29 NY and James 2 NY. He lists himself as a retired banker.
Guess he made a killing young. He and Margaret will be
back in New York City in 1880 and she will be widowed there in 1900. He is a
son of Albert and Elizabeth Putnam from Danvers, and was born in Brooklyn April
3, 1845. The elder Albert was a son of Thomas Putnam (2192) and Mary Fitts of
Danvers. His dad died in the early 1850s, his mother and brothers are listed
shortly.

Putnam, the widow of Albert Putnam from Danvers and then Brooklyn. Albert was a
son of Thomas Putnam (2192) and Mary Fitts of Danvers, Mass. They were in West
Orange, New Jersey in 1860. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Cheevers
Putnam, daughter of Nathaniel Putnam and Elizabeth Waters of Danvers, Mass.
He is
still a dry goods merchant, and is now 46 NY, Caroline McCray his wife 44 CT,
Edward H. 20 NY, Kate 17 NY, Frances M. 15 NY and James O. (Osborne) 12 NY. He
married Caroline in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 11, 1847. He’s one of
Harvey and Myra’s kids. They will all be in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri
in 1880. He’ll be with the railroad as will James. He will die and be buried
back here on July 14, 1898. Carrie will be widowed in Minneapolis in 1900.
Carry will die on January 6, 1906. Both are buried back here in Attica.

22 NY and a laborer on the Starr farm. He is Edwin Alonzo Putnam, a son of
Sardis Putnam and Dorcas Starr from Livingston and then Cayuga County. The
family here is part of his mother’s family.

listed as 70 MA, but it is really 80. He is now in the County Poor House. He’s
number 1264, and been here for ages.
One of Henry’s
kids, still a blacksmith but has again moved towns. He is now 40 NY, Betsy A.
33 NY, Lettie 14 NY and Frank (Adelbert in 1860, Frank in 1880) 12 NY. She will
be widowed here in 1880.
He is
now 74 NY and boarding with Charles and Catherine Davis a few houses away from
his daughter Roxilla Hammond and her family.
Catherine is probably a daughter as well.

51 NY, a farm laborer, Louisa Corey 52 RI, Matilda 19 NY, Daniel 16 NY and
William 10 NY. He is a son of Andrew and Submit Putman (Dutch), and has been in
Schuyler County most of his life. He was in Orange there in 1860. They will be
in Steuben County by the 1880.

laborer 23 NY, Ann E. 21 NY. He is a son of Elijah and Harriet Putman from
Wayne, Steuben County. Dutch.
She is
20 NY, a servant with a Disbrow family. She will be in Dundee in 1880 and
living with her ‘mother’ Lydia Havens and Olive Disbrow then 78 NY. She may be
a widow of some Putman. John and Dorcas Putman from Lyme, Jefferson County had
a daughter Mary born in 1849 who married a Havens man. This may well be who she
is.

She may be Charlotte Matilda Putman, daughter of Jacob and Louisa. She is also
shown at home here with them. Or she could be someone else. No idea.
He is a
Methodist Minister and like all these other guys was in Steuben County in 1860.
Difference is that he is a son of Cornelius Putnam and Happy Miller and the
only non-Dutch guy here in Yates County. He is now 55 NY, Caroline Sanford his
wife 45 NY, Ella 18 WI, Wellington 11 NY and Hattie 7 PA. Ella was a child of
his first marriage when he was in Grant County, Wisconsin in the late 1840s and
early 1850s. Wellington, or Amos as he was listed in 1860 in Tyrone, Schuyler
County, New York, is with Caroline. Caroline will be widowed with the kids in
Ontario County in 1880.
